Top 5 Gifts for Men That I Won’t Be Buying!

This is a follow on from the Top 5 Gifts for Kids I also won’t be buying this festive season.

Some of the stuff marketed towards kids is pretty strange. We’ve seen the poop themed games and plush disease microbes… But have you ever searched specifically for a gift for a man? Gender stereotypes aside, some of the stuff marketed as a suitable gift for the man or men in your life is just plain bizarre. Don’t get me wrong, much of it is hysterically funny, too. But these are not things I’d want to hand to a loved one!

Parenting Blog: You’re Doing it Wrong

It was with interest that I perused Mark Latham’s latest offering

“Mum Bloggers show dark side of feminist parenting”.

The title caught my eye, having just guest blogged about Parenting through a Feminist Lens myself, over at  a great parenting blog called The Multitasking Mummy. I wondered what possible dark side he could have imagined about parenting while keeping the mindset that women are, you know, human beings.

FYI: Breastfeeding & Urinating Aren’t the Same

This story is doing the rounds at the moment. A mother in London’s Claridge’s Hotel was asked to cover her breastfeeding baby with a giant napkin recently, because, you know, BREASTS.

The Sun, a UK paper, published the above in response to the matter.

Minister for Women Rejects No Gender December

In another stunning example of ill informed commentary, our PM and Minister for Women has said:

“I certainly don’t believe in that kind of political correctness. Let boys be boys, let girls be girls – that’s always been my philosophy…Above all else, let parents do what they think is in the best interests of their children.”

This was in response to the No Gender December Campaign, which seeks to highlight the fact that the Toy industry, along with toy retailers, are continuing to promote gender stereotypes that research has shown to be harmful.

Coke Makes Milk, Sells Out Women

Since approximately the beginning of time, women’s bodies have been used to sell everything. From clothing to food to cars to animal welfare- you name it, the female form has been splashed across billboards, screens and magazines to entice consumers to part with their pennies.

Coca-Cola Amatil, known best for soft drinks, is branching into dairy with it’s new product, Fairlife Milk, which will cost double the price of regular milk and is high protein, lactose free something something…sorry, got distracted by the ads:

You Are Not The Jerk Whisperer

Last week, I responded to a column written by former Labor leader and resplendent stay-at-home dad/gourmet cook/native gardener extraordinaire, Mark Latham.

My response was one of many “left-feminist” perspectives roundly criticising his remarks. This one is a doozy.

The Price of Compassion

The case of the newborn baby found in a drain in Sydney’s Quaker’s Hill on Sunday and the subsequent charge against his mother, have left many people reeling. I shared an article from Kidspot on my Facebook page and it certainly provoked some strong and varied responses:

On November 22nd, I drove past my friend Katie’s house, only to discover her Christmas decorations were out in full force. Flashing light things, inflatable Santa- the works. Alarmed, I contacted her to advise her of this startling November development. She assured me she was not only aware but that Christmas decorations had intentionally arrived prematurely. Her outstanding organisation skills have prompted me to get my shiz together shop on.
